Ear Training for Piano StudentsNeed a little extra practice for the ear test portion of your piano exam?  Check out the online exercises on teoria: Music Theory Web.

There, you’ll find exercises for rhythm clapbacks, interval recognition,   and melody playbacks.   The last one has you name a note in relationship to another note or scale.  I haven’t found any online melody playback drills with several notes.  Please leave your comments below  if you are aware of any.   For the exercises above, check off the categories equivalent to your level  (i.e.,  compare to material in your level of the Four Star Sight Reading and Ear Tests book).

Sound Advice: Theory and Ear Training books include an ear training worksheet alongside a theory worksheet in each lesson.  The audio tracks needed to complete the ear-training worksheets can be downloaded using a password inside each book.

Also helpful for ear training are the Perfection Ear CDs, which include clapback rhythms, playback melodies and interval identification.  Young children should have parents or an older sibling help them with these for best results.

Happy Listening!
